This week I turned to a PR expert, Ellen Molina-Mulcahy, about the importance of PR in the fashion industry. I had the privilege to work with Molina-Mulcahy at Azione as a Digital and VIP Intern. As my first internship and introduction to the world of PR, Molina-Mulcahy taught me skills far beyond the classroom, expanding my understanding of working with major clients while exemplifying leadership through kindness and confidence.
With 11+ years of PR, celebrity relations, and influencer marketing experience, Molina-Mulcahy has built a reputation for creating outstanding campaigns that put brands on the map. With an editorial background, and extensive network of celebrity and influencer connections, Molina-Mulcahy combines strategy with creativity to deliver impactful press coverage and measurable success.
Staying Ahead of Trends
Molina-Mulcahy is always one step ahead by keeping up to date on what’s next in fashion, lifestyle, and digital media. Molina-Mulcahy emphasizes the importance of engaging with industry news daily. “The industry changes by the minute,” she explains. “Reading sites like Fashionista, Glossy, Vogue Business, and Social Media Today keeps me informed.”
Emerging Trends in PR
Molina-Mulcahy also highlights the trends brands need to pay attention to in the next few years. “Brands are definitely opening up their eyes to the value and success of working with creators and influencers, so they’re able to be more creative and open. Another trend is working with creators for UGC based campaigns, where they are scoped to create video content for brand use, not necessarily paid for posting to their channels. This allows brands to be more flexible with budget since they can tap into the nano + micro influencer space.”
Most Rewarding Aspects of PR
One of Molina-Mulcahy’s favorite aspects of her work is seeing campaigns turn into tangible success. “Securing an organic celebrity placement or paid influencer campaign for a brand and seeing how those directly translate to results + sales for my brands is always so rewarding!”
Dream Collaboration
When asked who she would love to collaborate with, Molina-Mulcahy says, “Ashley Graham. I love what she stands for such as her feminism, body activism as well as her overall personality and style.”
Intersection of PR and Fashion
Social media has totally changed the fashion industry allowing for more people to feel immersed in the fashion world. “I love seeing what talents are wearing in live time. You used to have to wait until an awards show, for example, to see the red carpet, but now you can see someone’s look through behind-the-scenes social content or through their stylists,” she expresses, “The industry today is much more mainstream which creates excitement for a more general population than just those who work within the PR / fashion industries.”
Power of Celebrity Placement
“Celebrities get paparazzi shots all the time not just for the red carpet but also in their daily lives, this provides so many opportunities for fashion placements and larger creative collaborations,” she explains. “You’re seeing celebrities now become Creative Directors of brands, showing how much the industry has evolved over the years. There is a natural interest from celebrities into the world of fashion which provides so many opportunities for talent to participate in capsule collections, social posts, attend fashion week events and more.”
Ellen Molina-Mulcahy’s ability to stay ahead of trends, build strong connections, and deliver impactful campaigns has established her as a standout in the PR world. Her passion for storytelling and strategic thinking ensures she remains a key player in an industry that’s always evolving.
